Tom’s driver coaching has been key to me achieving the great results that I have in the very short time that I have been racing. 5 wins, 2 second places, and 1 third place, plus numerous top 10 finishes.
Despite only completing half the races due to work commitments I was able to secure 3rd overall in the 2023 750MC Locost Championship.
The above results bare testament to Tom’s coaching ability. Tom’s approach to coaching is to encourage the driver to give good feedback, about the car and the way it is handling etc. then cross-reference that with video and data that has been collected during the session.
When all the information has been analysed Tom will sit with the driver and discuss, in very easy to understand way, what can be done to gain those all-important tenths of a second required to improve the drivers performance, things such as breaking points, turn in points, corner apex points and corner exit etc.
One thing that I like about Tom’s coaching is the way that Tom encourages you as a driver to put forward your ideas as to how you think you can be quicker, a process which helps Tom and the driver to understand each other and both become a more successful working partnership. Tom is an integral part of our small team now. Knowing he is there to chat things over with an analyse my performance gives me such a boost in confidence when I am racing. I would recommend Toms driver coaching whatever level of motorsport you participate in. The results speak for themselves.

Tom’s exceptional talent as a coach is to tailor his teaching to the individual. I have always struggled with the data graphs that most drivers and coaches use to analyse their performance and suggest improvements.
While I understand what they represent, I find it very difficult to relate these graphs to what I am feeling on the track.
Tom however, spotted this instantly and realised that I am very visual in my learning. Tom would take my data, go through all the graphs that make me glaze over. He quickly identified where the greatest gains could be made and then presented it to me using my onboard camera footage, in a way I could instantly relate to.
This gave such clarity and enabled me to quickly adapt my driving , led to many ‘light bulb’ moments, and was a fundamental factor in building the most successful season of my career.

Tom is a great driver coach.
Patient, understanding and detail oriented, he really helped me manage my state of mind before races – which, believe me, is harder than it sounds.
As a driver coach and race engineer myself, I often found it hard to switch hats. Having Tom onboard meant I could relax and just focus on my driving.

The 81st Goodwood Members Meeting was exciting, driving both the AC Cobra, and the Ford Mustang. The Cobra was a Solo drive, the Mustang however, was co-driving alongside my usual partner in crime, Anthony Reid
I know Tom from my 750 Motor Club days, where I learned my race craft in the single make Locost Championship. Tom and his team helped with setup, and driver tuition in those early days, enabling me to get on the pace and subsequently win the championship.
Knowing how big the challenge at Goodwood was going to be, I asked Tom to come onboard as our driver coach leading up to and during the event.
Although Anthony Reid and I are experienced drivers and instructors ourselves, having Tom present at test sessions and race meeting simplified the process and allowed us to easily make improvements. Both being super competitive personalities, it was so useful to have a neutral 3rd party to analyse our data and help us both improve, as we were both faster in different areas of the track
Tom was able to overlay data between each session and match with video to help Anthony and I work together to go faster.
Further to this, Tom is a much-needed relaxed personality on an otherwise full on and sometimes stressful weekend. He was able to give wise words of advice in the evenings and prior to qualifying which helps to give calm focus on the important things.
We got two great results at the Members Meeting with the Mustang going 2 seconds faster and the Cobra 1 second faster than they’d ever been before over their 60 years of existence!
Tom was a vital part of achieving these results. It was such a pleasure to work again with someone that’s been there since day one, and such an influential part of my race career. Thank you, Tom, we look forward to working with you again. I highly recommend Tom as a coach!
